Since March 2017, Mbasa Mwawembe has served as the principal of Managochi Community Technical College, providing strong leadership in his role. He is recognized as an innovator in Malawi through his involvement in the Community Innovation Program at Malawi University of Science and Technology, as well as the Technical Entrepreneurial Vocational Education and Training (TEVETA) program. One of his notable innovations includes the creation of a solar-powered hand sanitizing facility during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mbasa Mwawembe holds a bachelor's degree in business management from Pentecost Life University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science (MSc) in Innovation at Malawi University of Science and Technology.

Additionally, Mbasa Mwawembe is a skilled technician in construction, specializing in carpentry and joinery. He also serves as a facilitator for AutoCAD training, leveraging this expertise to design and bring his innovative ideas to life. With experience in construction, teaching, and entrepreneurship, Mbasa Mwawembe has led his team to secure a competitive World Bank grant in 2023. He has successfully initiated various income-generating activities through partnerships with NGOs, the district council, and other government agencies to sustain the operations of MCC.

Mbasa Mwawembe demonstrates exceptional financial management skills, ensuring prudent use of funds provided or raised by the institution. He is recognized as one of the country's top experts in tools acquisition, and under his leadership, the institution has become a role model for all community technical colleges in Malawi.
